Quick Search
If you are in Quick search, you can limit your keyword search to terms from specific
categories in the IndexCat record. Your choices are:
To perform a Quick Search in any category:
- Type your word(s) or phrases in the Quick Search box.
- Select the specific search category from the drop-down list
- To truncate words, indicate word importance or a phrase, apply the following
characters:
- Use a question mark (?) after a search term to indicate truncation: child?
(finds child, children, childhood, etc.)
- Use quotation marks to search for specific phrases: "by localities"
- Use a plus sign (+) before a terms to indicate an essential term:
+leukemia
- Use an asterisk (*) before a term to indicate an important item:
*treatment
- Use an exclamation point (!) before a term to indicate that records
containing the term are not to be displayed: !childish
Tip: Some stems for truncations: case? biog? obit?
- Select the collection(s) you want to search by clicking the corresponding box.
- Click the Search button to begin your search.
- The default number of records displayed on each page is 25. The maximum is 100
records per page. You can change this by using the 'results per page' drop-down
menu.
- Click the Search tab to begin your search.
- Search results display at a summary level in Results Summary, in an Author/Title
list in a Results Display list, and a Record Display for the individual item.
Browsing Collections on Quick Search tab:
To browse the contents of each collection, click the '+ (expand) and (collapse)
buttons beside each entry. To view a description of any entry, click the More
Information image beside the record name.
Within the eTK/eVK2 and Index-Catalogue collections the record content is broken down
into record groups. eTK/eVK2 is broken down into groups of 100 records. Index-Catalogue
is broken down by Series, Volume and then groups of subrecords.
