Date Search in Advanced Search

A Date Search is a date of publication search.

To perform a Date search:

1. Click on the Advanced search tab on the main search page and select Date Search in the drop down list

2. Type a year you want to search in the Advanced Search box

3. You can type multiple years in a single search box

• If you specify 'Any of these', IndexCat will return items published in any of the years specified.
• If you specify 'All of these', IndexCat will return items published in all of the years you specify. 'All of these' works best if you search dates within one or two years of each other.

4. You can use the truncation character (?) to search a group of dates. Date truncation is not useful if used with century searches because of Index Cat's size. It works on decade searches but only up to the current search retrieval limit of 1000.

Examples:

• 1875 1876 - in the same search box - 'All of these' -- retrieves items with both publication dates
• 189? -- retrieves publications in the 1890s up to the current search retrieval limit of 1000.

5.For best results, use Date Search in combination with other search categories.

Example: Keyword Anywhere - anthrax AND Date Search - 189? -- retrieves 261 results from Series 3.
