Author Search in Advanced Search


In IndexCat you can search all names listed as author in all item types. You can search authors of journal articles as well as books and dissertations.

The printed Index Catalogue limited direct author access to books and dissertations. Journal articles authors are available only under subject headings. In IndexCat you can search these authors independently.

Author searches are keyword searches of the last, first and middle names of authors.

To search a specific author, always use 'All of these' in Advanced Search.

Search Tip:If a person wrote both books and articles, Index Catalogue lists their names in two (2) formats:

    1. For monographs and dissertations (books and theses): a full form of name is listed:

    2. For analytics (journal articles, newspaper articles, letters, obituaries, et. al.):

To perform an Author search:

    1. Click on the Advanced search tab on the main search page and select Author Search in the drop down list

    2. Type in lastname firstname and select 'All of these'

    3. For articles as well as books, use the second advanced search box

To search for major works ABOUT a person:

    1. Go to Subject search in Advanced search

    2. Search the name using the format for the full form of name.
